SAN ANTONIO – News of a bomb exploding inside this FedEx facility in Schertz was twice as heartbreaking for local Councilman Cedric Edwards.

"My heart goes out to the FedEx family. They've done a lot great work in the community and for someone to attack the way they have against a corporation like that and against normal citizens, that's just wrong," said Edwards.

The Schertz city councilman worked for FedEx for 26 years.

"I couldn't believe it happened. Anyone that knows FedEx they know how serious they take security. So that person that did that was recorded from the moment they drove into the parking lot to the moment they dropped their package off," said Edwards Wednesday afternoon.

What Edwards believed would never happen did happen just after midnight on Tuesday. A package being sorted exploded on a conveyor belt. An employee was knocked to the floor, but not seriously hurt.

"I was dismayed and I was hurt. I know a lot of young people that work for FedEx still. A lot of young people that I've trained," said Edwards.

FedEx employees were back at work in Schertz by Wednesday afternoon. But the councilman expects, for some, coming back won't be easy.

"I talked to four or five of my former coworkers and they are just as much in shock as I am today," he said.

Edwards is proud of what the city of Schertz was able to contribute to the massive investigation.

"The police, EMS, even our emergency command center. Those guys are top notch. They were relaying information to federal officials that help them come up with this attempted arrest," said Edwards.

However, the takeaway for him is more personal.

"Gratefulness. I was that guy that worked there so many years. And you realize that people take things for granted. Here today, gone tomorrow. You take things for granted. For somebody to do something like that. That could have been anywhere," said Edwards.
