NATIONWIDE — A recall has been issued for thousands of smoke alarms sold at Home Depot, Walmart, and other hardware stores after safety officials say they do not alert consumers in case of a fire.
The recall is for Kidde dual-sensor smoke alarms – models PI2010 and PI9010.
Officials say a yellow cap on the alarm covers two sensors which causes the alarm to not work properly.
Consumers are advised to turn the alarm on its side to check for the cap.
If it is there, they say consumers should not try to take the alarm apart or remove the cap, but call Kidde at 833-551-7739 or visit their website for more information on requesting a free replacement.
If no yellow cap is present, no further action is necessary.
In November 2017, Kidde recalled more than 40 million fire extinguishers.
