SAN ANTONIO – Women are gearing up to learn more about fixing cars in San Antonio.

On Sunday, female mechanics hosted a free auto shop class on San Antonio's North Side.

The event, hosted by Pistons and Pixie Dust, gained popularity on Facebook with more than 3,000 women showing interest.

The women got to learn everything from changing a tire to maintenance under the hood.

The goal was to help women become empowered car owners.

"We have women of all ages. We have some Girl Scouts coming who don't have driver licenses yet and then all the way up to a 70-year-old widow who message me saying you know my husband used to handle this I don’t even know how to change a spare and I can't wait to take your class," said Faye Hadley and Alexis Dabilis with Pistons and Pixie Dust.

Pistons and Pixie Dust travel across the country to teach these classes. They are planning to return next year in a bigger space to host more attendees.
