AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police are still looking for information on a man who was killed after being hit by a vehicle on I-35 a few weeks ago.

Officers responded to a report of a deceased, Hispanic male, lying in the middle lane of 20 N. IH-35 Northbound.

According to police, the trauma to the still-unidentified body of a man in his 30s, was consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle.

The vehicle did not remain at the scene and no witnesses have come forward with information.

This is Austin’s thirteenth fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in fourteen fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were eleven fatal traffic crashes and eleven traffic fatalities.

AUSTIN, Texas – A man died after being hit by a vehicle on Thursday evening just south of downtown Austin.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes in the 20 block of I-35 at 8:48 p.m.

The man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are telling drivers to expect delays on I-35 in both directions because of first responders at the scene.

Northbound lanes at I-35 and Riverside are shut down. At 9:45 p.m., Texas Department of Transportation officials said that the northbound lanes will likely be closed for several hours. 

Northbound traffic is being routed through Holly Street. 

All southbound lanes are open, but drivers can still expect delays in the area. 

The Austin Police Department's Vehicular Homicide Unit is investigating the crash. They do not know why the man was on the freeway but believe he was killed in a hit-and-run.
