SAN ANTONIO- A San Antonio high school student is back at home after spending hours trapped inside a northside cave on Thursday.

For more than eleven hours, rescuers chiseled away at the rock that pinned the Robert E. Lee senior in. She became wedged in a "hole in the floor" while touring at Robber Baron Cave Preserve.

"They (students) were going in and out of crawl spaces inside the cave, and unfortunately, this student just misjudged one of the crawl spaces," said Aubrey Chancellor, Executive Director of Communications for North East ISD.

On Friday, the school district said the teen is in good spirits and recovering at home. It's a sigh of relief for neighbors who witnessed the scene unfold in their northside neighborhood.

"We prayed for the girl to have the peace of mind and to be able to get out," said Karen Dean, who lives nearby.

Cave Management was also relieved the girl made it out unharmed. They credit previous training with the fire department for the success of the rescue.

"We partner here at Robber Baron with the San Antonio Fire Department in the event that something like this were to unfortunately happen," said Joe Ranzau of the Texas Cave Management Association. "All of our training and preparation paid off."
