WEBSTER, N.Y. -- People from Webster came together to remember a man whose own struggle with appendix cancer prompted him to help others.

Tim Wesley passed away at home Saturday morning. He had been battling appendix cancer since April 2012.

Hundreds were gathering with candles in his neighborhood, some forming a circle, all to support his family.

Wesley and his wife Denise formed Be uninTIMidated, an organization that helps raise awareness of appendix cancer and other rare cancers.

Their efforts have raised thousands of dollars to help other families coping with those diseases.

"Today we lost an amazing man, and there's a lot of us that wanted to show our appreciation for what he did. He's just so hard to explain, he's bigger than life," said Diane Martin, Wesley's friend.

The family will receive friends on February 28 from 12-3 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. at Dreier-Giltner Funeral Home and Tim's funeral will be held on March 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Kateri at Christ The King Church. Tim is the brother of our assignment manager Lynn  Wesley. We offer our condolences to his wife, daughters, family and friends.
