AUSTIN, Texas -- After months of hard work, hundreds of young ladies gather at Austin Energy Science Festival to show off what they know.

Their projects show them to be as capable as any boy in the field of science, and they have the ribbons to prove it.

"There should be more girl scientists because girls are just as smart as boys," said 9-year-old Georgia Wallace.

Female scientist characters in media are becoming more mainstream. Young women across the country are being inspired in ways never seen before.

Wallace gained her love for science from watching movies.

"I’ve seen movies and like chemistry," Wallace said. "I just really like chemical reaction type stuff and this is basically chemical reaction."

But some don't have to look too far for inspiration. Virbha Hirsave got her inspiration from her mother.

"I like science because my Mom’s a scientist and I wanna be one too," Hirsave said.

The young scientists will celebrate winning ribbons as a sign of a bright future ahead. A future that they know is their's for the taking.

"I want to be a scientist and I want to be the president of the United States," Hirsave said.

For the rest of us, the futures looking pretty bright.
