NATIONWIDE – A new bag policy is kicking off on Thursday at all Cinemark movie theaters nationwide.

The chain will no longer allow customers to bring bags or packages larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches. The only exceptions to the rule are diaper and medical bags.

The company said the change is due to safety related reasons.

Staff members will now have the right to inspect all packages and bags brought inside the building.

The new bag policy comes six years after a gunman opened fire at a Cinemark Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado killing 12 people and injuring 70.
