SAN ANTONIO -- The fates of Senator Carlos Uresti and consultant Gary Cain now lie in the hands of a jury.

Both men face a combined 20 felony charges of fraud and money laundering for their involvement in a now bankrupt frac-sand company. Closing arguments wrapped up Tuesday afternoon, with prosecutors saying Uresti lied to investors for financial gain by scamming victims into investing money into FourWinds logistics.

The prosecutors reminded jurors of the million-dollar home and expensive car they say Uresti was struggling to keep up with. But defense lawyers for Uresti and co-defendant Gary Cain said neither knew anything about the inner workings of the company or misuse of investor money.

Defense attorneys said Uresti acted in good faith and never committed any crime. Uresti himself had these words for the large group of media members who surrounded him this evening as he walk out of the courtroom.

"I feel good. As I said, I stood here almost a year ago on the courthouse steps with my wife and my attorneys and I let the people of San Antonio and the community know that I was not guilty of these charges and I feel confident that with the Lord's blessing and the support of my family and my wife, that this jury is going to come back and find me not guilty on all of these charges,” said Uresti.

Deliberations will continue Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
