DALLAS -- Dallas' Mayor Pro Tem is urging the National Rifle Association to move their annual meeting out of the city.

Dwaine Caraway is asking the NRA to relocate their event, held in Dallas every year, to a new home. Caraway called the annual meeting "inappropriate" following last week's deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

"Those kids in Florida, they will have to live with this nightmare every day of their lives. The NRA needs to step up and show leadership,” said Caraway.

An NRA spokesman told the Associated Press that the group won’t consider moving elsewhere and that it already is in Dallas in the form of numerous members in the region.

The NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits is scheduled for the first weekend in May, boasting the "the most spectacular displays of firearms, shooting and hunting accessories in the world."
