SAN ANTONIO – A home invasion turned deadly when a resident was shot and killed just before midnight Tuesday night.

The man in his 40s was shot by three Hispanic males breaking into his home on the 300 block of Regina. Police said a struggle broke out around 11:45 p.m. between the resident and the suspects who fired a single shot.

Upon arrival, officers found the man on the ground in the front yard of his home with a gunshot wound. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

During the shooting, one of the suspects was shot in the neck. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The other two suspects fled from the scene on foot.

The resident who was killed had only lived in the house for one month.

Detectives are still actively investigating.
