AUSTIN, Texas – After celebrating a Super Bowl win, the City of Austin is rewarding an Eagles player who graduated from Westlake High School with a citywide day dedicated just to him.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler proclaimed Feb. 9, 2018 as Nick Foles Day. The Austin native led the team to victory in a late-game comeback, landing him the MVP title.

“Foles took over for the injured Carson Wentz late in the season and led the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl,” states the proclamation.

Westlake High School celebrated their alumnus' win by designing T-shirts featuring Foles made by his mom, Melissa Foles.

The Texas high school is now the only public school in the nation to produce two Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks. Saints quarterback Drew Brees graduated a decade before Foles also winning a Super Bowl title.

"It was an exciting day to be a chaparral," said Westlake High School football head coach Todd Dodge. "The T-shirts that they made up, you know, I had my Nick Foles T-shirt on last night and I was wearing it with pride."

Half of the proceeds from the shirt sales will go to the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation, a charity selected by Foles.

Foles is first backup quarterback to win a Super Bowl since Tom Brady 16 years ago.
