WASHINGTON — Southwest Airlines partnered with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in Washington, D.C., to transport more than 60 dogs and cats from Puerto Rico to the U.S. mainland.

The animals arrived at BWI-Marshall Airport in Baltimore Saturday afternoon.

The efforts were to help relieve an animal shelter in Puerto Rico that's still dealing with the impact of Hurricane Maria.

Southwest Airlines donated the trip to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, and the entire crew volunteered its service, free of charge. Lucky Dog worked with the rescue group called PR Animals, Dallas News said.

The animals were transported from Baltimore to the Lucky Dog shelter in D.C., from which the shelter will re-home the rescued guys and gals.
