BEXAR COUNTY, Texas -- A man was arrested after an armed, three-hour standoff in Southeast Bexar County.

Authorities responded to a disturbance call around 10 a.m. Sunday on South Foster Road near New Sulphur Springs Road. Deputies say a man in his 20's was arguing with his stepfather.

Police said the suspect fired his gun and ran to a nearby neighbor’s property, where he barricaded himself inside a van. A SWAT team and negotiators were then called to the scene. After hours hiding in the van, deputies moved in and detained the suspect. Authorities want to remind residents to keep safe especially during these kind of situations.

“When scenes are active, if especially somebody has a firearm, they could have any weapon for that matter. Just stay inside, and monitor media. Stay safe; if you’re away from home, and you have knowledge of it, stay out of the area,” said Sgt. Elizabeth Gonzales, of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

The name of suspect has not been released. The man remains in custody with charges pending.
