SAN ANTONIO — A convoy of hope is giving seniors in need a warm meal and some holiday cheer.

San Antonio City Council members teamed up with the San Antonio Food Bank to deliver food across the city on Dec. 15.

The Healthy Options Program for the Elderly started in 2003 and provides free groceries to seniors.

Food boxes were distributed to nearly 11,000 elderly neighbors in need.

"I think when it comes to how we will be judged as a society, it truly will be in how we take care of those who are most vulnerable among us and children and seniors are that population," Eric Cooper, president and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank said.

Last year the food bank delivered 5.5 million pounds of food to seniors in the region through a half a million dollar investment by the City of San Antonio.
