SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police have arrested a man they believe is connected to the robbery at Popeye’s Fried Chicken.
Police believe 18-year-old Trevon Atkinson was the getaway driver during the robbery on Thursday that left one man dead.
On Friday police stopped atkinson during a routine traffic stop. He was then brought into the robbery unit for questioning and eventually told police he was the driver. Atkinson is charged with aggravated robbery.
During the robbery on Thursday, police say 19-year-old Andres Herrera walked into the restaurant wearing a hoodie and a mask. A father who was having dinner with his family shot and killed Herrera.
"These gentlemen entered a Popeye’s Chicken during normal business hours with people inside the store,” Carlos Ortiz with the San Antonio Police Department said. “ [A] Pretty bold act when you're committing armed robberies. I think it was a matter of time that if they weren't stopped, someone else was probably was gonna be hurt."
The man who killed Herrera won't face any charges.
