The San Antonio Tricentennial Commission has announced that musical legend and San Antonio native Leonardo “Flaco” Jimenez has joined the lineup of performers for the Celebrate 300 New Year's Eve celebration.

“The combination of these conjunto and Tex-Mex music powerhouses, Flaco and Little Joe, is an incredible addition to this family-friendly celebration that has been 300 years in the making,” said Carlos Contreras, interim executive director for the Tricentennial Commission. “This once-in-a-lifetime event will bring the community together to kick off our milestone year in which we will honor our unique cultural heritage and history. As a native of San Antonio and conjunto music pioneer, Flaco has made his name blending traditional and modern sounds. He and Little Joe exemplify the richness of our culture and will be a huge hit on New Year’s Eve," the press release said.

SAN ANTONIO — Tricentennial New Year's Eve festival details have been revealed.

The talent lineup for the NYE celebration includes:

  • Sam Riggs 
  • Selena Tribute Band Bidi Bidi Banda 
  • The Last Bandoleros 
  • Little Joe Y La Familia 
  • Headliners Pat Benatar with Neil Giraldo and REO Speedwagon

Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair Park will be transformed for the evening into the Tricentennial Garden.

Starting at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31, families can enjoy free admission to the festival grounds that will feature interactive art, games, trick ropers, costumed characters, face painters, caricature artists, inflatable obstacle courses, music and live theatrical performances.

There will also be an outdoor cinema featuring popular movies including “Big,” “Home Alone,” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

An 80-foot ferris wheel will sit at the center of the event and Magik Theatre actors will host on-stage performances throughout the festival.

The event will be capped off with a 20-minute midnight fireworks show.
