SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a shooting after he was hit by driver in a road rage incident on Sunday.

The deputy was flagged down by a person around 5:39 a.m. The person told the deputy they were in a road rage incident near Loop 1604 and Marbach Road.

The suspect invovled in the incident was found in a vehicle on a nearby dead-end road. As the deputy approached, the suspect turned his car towards him and accelerated quickly. The driver crashed into the deputy and his patrol car.

The deputy attempted to fire his Taser at the suspect, but missed. He then pulled out his weapon and shot the suspect. Due to the deputy’s damaged patrol car, he was unable to follow the suspect as he drove off.

Another patrol car found the suspect on U.S. Highway 90. The suspect hit another vehicle on the roadway as he fled. Deputies were able to stop the suspect after they crashed into his car.

The 17-year-old suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A 17-year-old passenger was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver hit by the fleeing suspect was also injured and taken to the hospital.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating this incident.

The deputy involved in the shooting will temporarily be placed on administrative duty while the sheriff’s office investigates.
