SAN ANTONIO - The mother of a 10-year-old girl shot and killed in a drive-by shooting on Thanksgiving Day has strong words following the arrest of the suspected shooter.

On Thursday, police arrested Cody Gann, 19, in connection with the death of Delilah Hernandez. The little girl was asleep inside her home when she was fatally struck by a bullet.

"He's going to get what he deserves, one way or another. It will eat at him," said Jacqueline Vega, Hernandez's mother.

Police believe the drive-by was gang-related and that Gann was after the girl's older brother. However, Vega doesn't believe Gann was the only one behind the plot.

"She just needs to admit to what she did and why my daughter's dead," she said.

A woman was also arrested with Gann, but on an unrelated warrant. Vega believes that woman is part of the reason her 10-year-old daughter is gone. Spectrum News has chosen to keep the woman's identity unknown because she has not been charged in the girl's death.

"I've seen that little girl before, the one who showed him where we lived so she needs to be charged with something," said Vega.

Vega said the woman was her son's ex-girlfriend, and has visited their home before. Now, feeling unsafe, Vega is planning to leave behind the home and take her remaining children somewhere else.

"They need to be safe. We don't feel safe here," she said.

Vega hopes the investigation into her daughter's murder reveals more information as the weeks come and some justice is served.
