SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio's Christmas Tree lighting ceremony typically draws large crowds, but that doesn't mean everyone is happy about it moving to Travis Park.

Steve Monreal said he's upset the tree won't be at the Alamo this year, and he's not alone.  He said he's been coming to see it since he was a child and thinks it's sad to see a break in tradition.

On the first Saturday in December, he and his group plan to place 100 mini trees in front of the Alamo for the weekend.

"You see how many families are out here taking pictures and enjoying the lights and, of course, the Alamo. That's pretty much what we're known for. We rely on our Alamo. A bunch of tourists come from all over the world to see it," said Monreal.

The city said plans to relocate the tree were already in the works because of the Alamo Plaza construction.

After the demonstration, Monreal says the mini trees will be donated to families in need, nursing homes and hospitals.
