SAN ANTONIO — Jacqueline Vega’s daughter Delilah was killed Thanksgiving morning. She was sleeping in her grandmother’s bedroom when a bullet struck her in the chest.

“I asked my mom, where’s Delilah? She said in the room on the bed. We all walked in...my daughter was dead,” said Jacqueline.

She describes the 10-year-old as a young girl who loved school and who also enjoyed to dance with aspirations of becoming a popular personality — as a Youtuber.

Delilah was a 4th grader at West Avenue Elementary. She was looking forward to Thanksgiving Day.

The shooting took place about 7 a.m. at a home located on Harwood Drive, just north of Basse Road, in the northwest part of town.

Police said there were five people in the home when someone drove up and opened fire. The victim was in a bedroom watching TV when she was struck one time in the chest, police said. She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives were interviewing the girl’s teenage brother, who indicated he was likely the target of the gang-related shooting.

Police said they are confident that they will identify a suspect or suspects upon completion of their interview with the brother.

Police further said the home has been a “problem” in the past, which fueled their suspicion that the shooting was related to gang activity.

Multiple rounds were fired at the house, police said, but the girl was the only victim.
