SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Hays County Food Bank set out to make this Thanksgiving a little less stressful for those in need in our community.

The food bank distributed 2,000 frozen turkeys and food boxes this holiday season.

"The food bank, it help us out, save me a little money, you know," said one Turkey Box recipient.

Another recipient, Brittany Gonzales, is out of work right now. She said that without the food bank's help, she and her little ones wouldn't have a Thanksgiving this year.

"It means a lot (and) helps out my family, especially my kids. I have a three-month-old and a two-year-old," said Gonzalez.

Food Bank CEO Denise Blok said Gonzalez is just one of many.

"Well, the needs greater than what we're actually able to cover, as you probably saw with the line," said Blok.

Each of the boxes cost about $30 to put together and relies on community donations to put them together.

It's a sacrifice for the food bank, but one that Blok said she's thankful to be able to make.
