NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - New Braunfels police said that a standoff Thursday morning stemming from a domestic situation briefly put a nearby elementary school on lockdown.

About 8:45 a.m., police responded to a home located in the 700 block of Wolfeton Way, which is located in the Avery Park subdivision. The call concerned a disturbance between a man and a woman.

When officers arrived, there was a 41-year-old man outside the residence holding a knife and demanding that officers shoot him.

A brief standoff ensued, and officers eventually shot the man with bean bag rounds.

The man dropped the knife, received medical treatment at the scene and was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

The woman involved was treated for a minor injury sustained during the altercation. She did not require hospitalization.

Nearby Clear Springs Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown during the standoff.

The man involved could be facing criminal charges.
