AUSTIN -- Lawmakers have introduced a new bill pushing stricter regulations for hot air balloon pilots.

The move comes after the deadliest hot air balloon crash in US history last year in Lockhart that killed 16 people. Texas Congressmen Lloyd Doggett, Blake Farenthold, and Will Hurd have all offered support for the bill.

The board is also calling for hot air balloon pilots to be required to get the same medical certification as airplane and helicopter pilots.

The FAA said it will consider the recommendations, but the decision will ultimately be up to Congress.
