DEVINE, Texas — Four Devine High School students caught possessing, using and passing meth on campus might be allowed to stay in school.

The Devine Independent School District board met last night to decide what to do with the students.

The board didn't announce its decision, citing student confidentiality.

Board members only said they support the Medina County District Attorney's move to put the students in a pre-trial diversion program.

That's a type of probation that would allow the students to avoid jail and felony charges on their record.

Some parents aren't happy with the DA's office or the school board.

"If they're not being punished, in the appropriate way, then how do we expect them to succeed in life? If they're basically getting a (mimes wrist slap) 'Let's not do that again honey.' how do you expect them to learn from these mistakes?"

Again, there's no official word from the school board that the students will be allowed to stay in school.

The students involved are all first-time offenders.

Two adults not associated with the school have been charged with supplying meth to the students.
