AUSTIN, Texas — Some Austinites will be took a knee Thursday morning at City Hall to protest police brutality.

Demonstrators are calling for accountability from the Austin Police Department.

They say they do not approve of the new police contract and claim APD continues to uphold discriminatory police policy and procedure.

"We don't want a new contract with the police union that continues to uphold inequitable police policy and procedure. We need real accountability, transparency and oversight of APD," organizers say. 

Protests against police brutality started over a year ago with NFL player Colin Kaepernick but has since escalated in recent months.

The demonstration is scheduled to begin today at 9:45 a.m.
