AUSTIN, Texas - Austin police on Monday took 40-year-old Osmani Limonta Diaz into custody in connection to a sexual assault that took place this past summer.

Diaz, who was driving for the Ride Austin ride-sharing service at the time, is accused of raping a female passenger.

According to the victim, she had been out drinking with friends on the night of June 10 and requested a ride home via the Ride Austin app. When they arrived at the victim’s home in Diaz’s Dodge Dart, Diaz raped the victim, according to the warrant.

When police questioned Diaz, he denied sexually assaulting the victim. However, biological evidence obtained from the victim matched Diaz’s DNA.

Diaz is charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony.

For its part, Ride Austin said that Diaz passed both a fingerprint-based and social security-based background check. The company is assisting the police department with its investigation.
