SAN ANTONIO - Bexar County's only children advocacy center is breaking ground on a $28 million campus.

ChildSafe helps area children and families deal with the trauma associated with abuse. The county continually ranks among the highest in child abuse cases.

"This facility gives them more space, more outdoor space and we can serve more kids." said Kim Abernethy, ChildSafe CEO. "We have completely outgrown our space now. In fact, we have to lease additional space so this will be great."

The organization wanted a larger, centrally located facility to accommodate its growing clientele. It's expected to open in 2019, and is located near East Houston Street and IH-10.

But it may not have been possible if it wasn't for a generous donation of $5 million from philanthropist Harvey Najim.
