SAN ANTONIO — A leukemia survivor is beating the odds by getting into the boxing ring.

Amanda Ramirez was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia in December 2015. The following October, doctors cured her after a tough battle with the blood cancer. Since becoming cancer-free, Ramirez says the boxing ring has become her place of refuge.

It also inspired her to help others fighting cancer.

"If i was going to be out there supporting and helping and being an advocate for getting back on your feet and fighting cancer i had to look like i was actually doing it,"said Ramirez.

Ramirez is raising awareness for Leukemia this weekend at a Light the Night Walk.

The run will be hosted at Hemisfair Park beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
