SAN ANTONIO -- One out of three children in Bexar County is struggling with childhood obesity, but a new initiative is hoping to combat those numbers.

Forward In Fitness is a new program in partnership with city and state leaders. Officials will take turns visiting schools and working out with the children.

The pilot program is kicking off in the Southside, South San and East Central school districts.

"It's really important that we bring the resources, Put an emphasis on fitness more than just nutrition and really teach these children and lead them by example,” said Karina Villa & Ashlee Trevino, of Nonprofit Engagement.

Organizers say the program is looking to add even more districts to the initiative.
