SAN ANTONIO -- Despite plans to scale back operations in other cities, Google Fiber is moving forward in San Antonio.

This week, city council will get an update on what to expect from the internet company in 2017.

Recently, council members voted to allow Google Fiber to test microtrenching.

That could help lay thousands of miles of fiber optic cable faster around the city.

Wednesday, the city's Fiber Deployment Management Team will outline the project and plans for the future.

The future could look brighter for San Antonio if more organizations came together.

That's the message from the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation.

The non-profit helps businesses relocate or expand to San Antonio.

But it says San Antonio needs a clearer brand.

It recently launched an initiative called the San Antonio Branding Movement that calls for organizations to collectively work on a marketing campaign to showcase what the city has to offer.

The foundation will update city council on the initiative this Wednesday.
