SAN ANTONIO -- The first of several public hearings in San Antonio regarding annexation is set for Wednesday.

That's when city leaders will discuss an area on the south side.

Last month, a large crowd gathered downtown, urging the San Antonio City Council not to annex properties.

But the council voted to move forward with a three year plan to annex a residential area near Boerne, commercial property off 281 and the voluntary annexation of 421 acres of land in south Bexar County.

The plan won't be finalized until after a series of meetings.

Wednesday's public hearing will begin at 6 p.m. at the municipal plaza building downtown.

On Thursday, city leaders will decide whether to adopt the San Antonio Film Commission's plan to increase film production here.

The proposal comes following some tough years for the commission, who says that funding cuts at the state level also cut incentives for filming in Texas.

The San Antonio group said it plans to make changes here to draw filmmakers to the Alamo city.

The commission said waiving fees for use of city owned property and launching an aggressive marketing campaign, for example, can create jobs and put San Antonio on the map with filmmakers.
