SAN ANTONIO — Experts from across the country are in San Antonio this week to see what's next for 911 technology.

Conference organizers say more than 240 million 911 calls are answered each year nationwide, but many departments struggle with old or inadequate technology, and training.

At this conference, people get a chance to see what next generation 911 could look like.

"The telecommunicator is actually the first responder. No matter what happens they're the first person that gets the call for help, so there's many decisions they have to make.  And this is...these are your tools to help you make those decisions,” said Mike Moody with Southern Software.

The National Emergency Number Association conference runs through Thursday.
