SAN ANTONIO -- In April, the body of Kenne McFadden, 26, was found floating by the Riverwalk.

At first investigators thought the cause of death was drowning, detectives now say McFadden’s death is a homicide.

"There were no obvious signs of injury and so when the body went to the Medical Examiner’s Office, they conducted an investigation,” said Sgt. Jesse Salame, of the San Antonio Police Department.

Homicide detectives went back to the heart of the city to look for clues. Investigators won’t discuss details of their case other than the suspect is aware he’s in the hot seat.

"He's been spoken to,“ said Salame.

Police won't reveal the identity of the suspect until a murder warrant is issued.

Trans Pride Initiative posted the following statement on Facebook:

Rest in power Kenne McFadden, murdered in San Antonio in April (the drowning was just ruled a homicide).

Some really horrible misgendering in the sources (including one news source "correcting" a friends use of the appropriate pronouns to misgender her), so posting the picture instead of the article, but including the links below.

Detectives continue to look for a motive. Although, some suspect McFadden was targeted because she is transgender.

"The magnifying glass has been put on them," said Tamara Hemmitt

Hemmitt works in the gay-friendly entertainment district and said she has seen members of the LGBTQ  terrorized for who they are.

The California native believes the historically deep-rooted conservative wing in state and national politics is fueling attacks against the LGBTQ community.

"I just hope that history would change and we could all turn over a new leaf,” said Hemmitt.

The person of interest is currently in jail on an unrelated charge.
