SAN ANTONIO -- Construction of San Antonio's largest outdoor classroom is set to kick-off.

Confluence Park will serve as an educational facility where people can relax and learn about the San Antonio River.

After years of planning, officials broke ground Wednesday on the new park.

This is the San Antonio River Foundation's largest single project to date.

The wide green space along Mission Reach will provide hands-on learning and environmental education all in an open air setting.

"The park will be about education, it will be about ecological education and sustainable building practices and specifically the capture and reuse of water," said project manager Stuart Allen.

Confluence Park was a $10 million community investment.

The space will be available for school field trips and will have a free meeting area for non-profits.
