After holding back from the 100s for the past nine days in Austin, it appears our luck will soon run out.  Today's forecast calls for a high around 97 to feel as hot as 102, then we're expecting to reach 98 to 99 over the weekend.  A few area thermometers could tap the Century mark before we even kick off next week, then the forecast continues to get even hotter.

'Tis the season for swimming pools and sunshades!  Do what you can to keep cool out there and be sure drink lots of water to keep hydrated, as well.  We recommend you get outdoors during the morning hours, when temperatures are at their coolest and comfortable, with what we think will be morning lows in the mid 70s both Saturday & Sunday.

After getting a good soaking for our Central Texas soils earlier this week, the area continues to gradually dry out again.  Plan for lots of afternoon sun through the weekend, and with no mention of rain here at home for the short term.  As a weak disturbance moves from the Gulf into NW Mexico, isolated sea breeze showers could ramp up from the Texas coast to I-10 but we think all of that activity will remain south of the Capital City.  Futurecast also shows some showers breaking out to our north and along I-10 to the east, a heads-up for travelers.

For the past six days or so, upper-level high pressure has been situated a couple of states to the north.  Unfortunately, the latest computer models show that high pressure cell moving back towards Texas early next week and it is expected to be directly overhead by Wednesday.  As a result, the forecast shows high temperatures running a couple of degrees above 100 with a possible heat index 105+.  It'll likely prompt a Heat Advisory next week.

Then, by the end of the week, the high pressure looks to back off and we could get some partial relief as we head into next weekend as a weak cold front tries to dig into Texas.  Join us for the long range forecast and update on the African dust situation on 'Weather on the 1s' on TV or via the live stream.
