A week that started with storms ends with plenty of steam.  While it seems like a distant memory, yes, we had some heavy downpours very early Monday, which made the first day of the week slightly cooler than normal.  We've been running into records ever since yet a subtle shift in the pattern aloft might mean a slight drop in high temperatures through the weekend.

At the Austin Airport yesterday, we saw a record-tying high of 98 (2011).  Today's records to beat?  102 (1925) at Camp Mabry in the metro and 99 (1956) at the Airport.

So far this month, high pressure has been the dominant player driving our weather.  Fortunately, it's been centered over Mexico -- not over Texas -- with the hottest temperatures to our south and west.  Computer models show the big ridge bumping a bit further south as we head towards Sunday, and that slight shift could allow for at least a few degrees of relief locally.  We'll still probably make it into the upper 90s tomorrow then maybe just mid 90s for Sunday.

Our in-house Futurecast model shows morning clouds giving way to partly sunny skies both today and tomorrow.  We'll see more clouds overhead during the middle of the day which will block at least some of that sweltering sun.  Even still, make sure you wear sunscreen if you're going to be out there for 20 minutes or more.

There's a slim 10% chance the sea breeze might make it into the area tomorrow, and a slightly better 20% shot now in the works for the second half of the weekend, with clouds likely to linger even longer into the afternoon on Sunday.

That all said, the overall accumulation forecast is less than 1/10th of an inch, so consider yourself lucky if you do see any raindrops in your backyard.

In the meantime, make sure you and those around you (and pets!) keep hydrated and stay safe.

There's another slim but noted chance for rain next Tuesday, and we'll show it to you on the latest computer models on 'Weather on the 1s'.  Join us on TV or the live stream.
