Even though we've been feeling like 92+ each afternoon, for the first time this week, the official Austin metro thermometer at Camp Mabry made it up to 90 degrees yesterday.  Today's forecast calls for a high near or slightly over 90, with a heat index as hot as 95.

High pressure will soon build strong over Texas, bringing an even brighter, hotter and drier pattern of weather for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend and beyond.

Be prepared!  That means drink lots of water and seek comfort indoors during the afternoon hours, when possible.  If you do have to work outside, make sure you take frequent breaks and, of course, keep an eye on those around you for signs of heat exhaustion.

The last time we hit 100 in Austin?  August 23rd.

Fortunately, we've seen hit-or-miss showers and storms come up from the coast during the last several afternoons on what we call the "sea breeze."  It amounted to a .15" at the Austin Airport yesterday and a trace at Camp Mabry.  Elgin also picked up .15" and Smithville reported .13".

We expect to see less impact from these sea breeze-type showers & storms as the atmosphere becomes slightly more stable.  A very slim 10% rain chance is too low to even mention on our big 7 Day Forecast.

Again, if we don't hit 100 by Memorial Day on Monday, it'll likely happen by the middle of next week.  Join us for 'Weather on the 1s' today on TV or the live stream to hear more about the heat plus get the very latest on a developing storm in the Caribbean that could venture into the Gulf.
