For three days in a row, Austin-area temperatures have topped out near the normal of 88 and we'll likely end up right around there again today.  Our forecast calls for a high near 90 on the thermometer by 4 o'clock to feel potentially as hot as 95.  Might there be any relief?  It's a low 20% chance for a few brief showers & storms from the coast.

Yesterday, the sea breeze delivered a few brief downpours right up to Bastrop Co. before it all fell apart.  Rosanky picked up .02" while Smithville reported .01", and that was about it.

Our in-house Futurecast model shows spotty storms arriving from the southeast around 3 to 5 p.m. but, again, most of the action is expected to diminish before hitting I-35.

As an area of low pressure moves east, high pressure is forecast to move up from Mexico and play a more dominant role in our Texas weather for the end of the week and beyond.  We're calling for a pretty quick rise in temps to mid 90s Friday then upper 90s for the holiday weekend.  If we don't hit 100 by Memorial Day itself, it'll probably happen by the middle of next week.  Do what you can to stay hydrated and safe from the sun during the hot afternoon hours, and make sure your holiday plans include some air conditioning and plenty of water.

As we venture into the hottest season, we sometimes get relief from the tropics.  In the eastern Caribbean, near the Yucatan, one cluster of storms shows signs of gradual development and the National Hurricane Center forecasters now give it a 50% chance of developing into a TROPICAL DEPRESSION during the next five days.  Join us on 'Weather on the 1s' on TV or the live stream to see the latest spaghetti model track and we'll talk more about impact on the Gulf coast.
