A few locations east of Austin saw some showers and thunderstorms during the middle and late afternoon Monday.  One thunderstorm that moved over Taylor dropped the temperature 15 degrees in less than an hour.  Area rain totals from Monday afternoon include:
.98"  Rosanky
.81"  Big Sandy Creek near Elgin
.55"  Thorndale
.35"  Cedar Creek near Bastrop
.22"  Smithville
.20"  Walnut Creek near Rockne
.12"  Bastrop
.07"  Lockhart
.07"  Taylor

There have been no 100-degree highs yet in the Austin area.  A bog ridge of upper-level high pressure will be building from northeast Mexico to west of the Big Bend Thursday ... then expand northward into west Texas by the weekend.  This high looks to be strong enough to give Austin-Mabry and some of the other reporting stations the first 100-degree temperature ... in spring.

Some 100 tidbits:
July 7 - average first date of a high of 100 or higher at Austin-Mabry
42 - the number of 100-degree days in 2017 from
June 17 - first 100 of 2017
August 23 - last 100 of 2017
107 - the hottest temperature recorded in 2017 ... on July 29.

Austin-Bergstrom had 23 days of triple-digit heat with the highest also on July 29 ... 106.
