What a week!  It seems like summer arrived in a hurry, with temperatures spiking into record-setting upper 90s over the past couple of days.  It's happening out there again today, too, as we wrap up the work week.  Look for an Austin-area high around 96 around 4 o'clock, which would put us one degree above the Airport record of 95 (from 2013) and very near the metro record of 97 (from 1925).  It's going to be a close call.  Make sure you take extra steps to stay cool & hydrated.

A quick recap:  yesterday's high of 96 in metro Austin tied the previous record for the date from 1925, and a top temp of 97 at the Airport beat out the old record of 93 from 2013.

You might notice one difference in our local weather today:  the breeze.  South-southeasterly winds will be notably stronger through the day with sustained speeds around 10 to 20 mph and gusts nearing 25 mph at times.

Abundant sunshine will help us warm up quickly under primarily sunny skies.  Make sure you wear some sunscreen!

Upper-level high pressure has been camping out all week in Mexico and it continues to influence our weather.  Computer models show the ridge breaking down and moving east through the first half of the weekend, and we think that'll allow a weak cold front to drop into Texas from the Rockies.  The front will slow down and eventually stall out, we believe, somewhere northwest of Austin.  Most likely it'll end up along the I-20 corridor with some rain for travelers on Sunday.

On Sunday, we expect mostly cloudy skies and, by afternoon, Futurecast shows some scattered showers and a few isolated storms drifting into the region from the north.  It's at least a 20% chance for rain then and, as the front continues to be stalled out in the area Monday to possibly early Tuesday, we'll keep that slim chance going into early next week.

NOAA's 7 day rain outlook suggests some 1/10th to 1/4 inch potential accumulations between now and next Friday, most of which we think will fall during the Sunday-Tuesday time frame.
