Southerly winds and bright sunshine combine to bring us a very warm Tuesday across Texas, including some area highs very close to 90 degrees.  Our forecast calls for at least 87 in Austin again today with gradually higher humidity.

Late tonight, scattered clouds will thicken up and that'll hold up our overnight lows closer to 60.  Those clouds will hold fairly thick overhead tomorrow, and there's at least a 30% chance for showers & storms by afternoon to evening as our next cold front arrives.

Futurecast shows the front crossing Texas from northwest to southeast, bringing hit-or-miss storms along the way.  A heads-up for mid-week travel plans:  you could run into some downpours, and there might be some hail under the strongest storms along with frequent lightning.

Here at home, the peak looks to happen during the late afternoon to early evening.  Our computer models show the rain hitting hardest in the Hill Country around sunset, then there could be a few lingering showers into the night before it all clears out.

Our in-house model predicts fairly light 1/10" to 1/4" rain totals around the CapCity with some 1/2" to 1" potential accumulations in the Hill Country.  NOAA's 3 day outlook appears similar, showing the possibility for 1/4" to 1/2" totals across Central Texas.

We're calling for sunshine and cooler daytime 70s on Thursday and Friday.  According to what we see right now, rain could return to the area as soon as Sunday.  Be sure to watch 'Weather on the 1s' on TV or the live stream for more.
