You needed to dress for summer-like heat Friday, but that will change drastically overnight. Starting early Saturday we'll have to dig into our winter wardrobe for at least one day as the weekend starts with a powerful cold front. At least by April standards, it's going to be a big plunge in temperatures and likely a shock to the system with a nearly 30 degree drop from Friday to Saturday. This is what we mean by "weather whiplash!"

Friday night into Saturday morning, northerly winds are forecast to howl into Central Texas. The cold front is timed to arrive shortly after midnight with a 40 percent chance for a few very brief showers & storms

Of course, that means we have a slim window of opportunity for lightning and thunder along with potentially sizable hail and damaging storm winds. Any rain accompanying this front should clear out early on Saturday, leaving us very chilly.  Most of the day will be spent in the upper 40s to low 50s but, thanks to the very strong, crisp winds, it could feel more like upper 30s to low 40s to your bare skin.

On Sunday morning, we're planning for a range of low 40s in town and mid to upper 30s in the suburbs and Hill Country -- notably colder than our normal low of 56 for this time of year. Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures should quickly climb back into low and mid 70s for the second half of the weekend.

A very weak front is expected in the area first thing Monday with only a minimal 20 percent rain chance, then skies look sunny for several days next week as high pressure brings some stability to the region. Another strong cold front might make it to our part of the Lone Star State next Friday.
