UPDATE [10:30 a.m.]: Burton Fitzsimmons reports storms are moving in sooner than anticipated.

Here's the latest from a Facebook Live we conducted:

ORIGINAL STORY:

You probably won't need your umbrella for most of the day but, at times, it could come in handy!  We think the weather might get rough out there for a few hours with possible lightning & sizable hail in addition to heavy downpours from some brief, strong to possibly severe storms as a cold front arrives from the northwest.  That'll likely happen around sunset.  Between now and then, we're feeling some spring warmth & mugginess with forecast highs in the low 80s.

From Austin east to the Louisiana border, it's a SLIGHT RISK for severe weather through tonight.  Hail and high winds will likely be the biggest threat, with a fairly low possibility of tornadoes.

It's an overall 30% chance for showers & storms during the day today under primarily cloudy skies, then the odds rise up to 60% after 5 p.m.  Our latest computer models show a broken line of storms firing up along a dryline immediately in advance of the cold front.  We think all of these features will move through the region pretty quickly yet could amount to some 1/4" to 1/2" rain accumulations.

The front is currently timed to arrive in Austin around 7-9 p.m. or so.  Once it pushes through the I-35 corridor, expect the rain to move southeast of our area.  A cool north breeze will follow, with northerly winds picking up to around 10 to 20 mph during the night.

Plan to wake up to morning 40s tomorrow then we'll expect highs around 70, making it our coolest day of the week.  Northerly winds will still be strong at sunrise then gradually taper through the day.

Another rain chance appears Friday & Saturday as another cold front tries to move into the Lone Star State.  Computer models show it arriving here very early Saturday morning, leaving us with daytime 70s this weekend.  Not bad!

In the meantime, be sure to check in with us often on 'Weather on the 1s' for updates about today's storm threat.  We're on TV and/or the live stream every 10 minutes, and more often as needed.
