No severe storms today, but elevated fire weather conditions will be in place behind our morning cold front due to gusty winds and much drier air. Please avoid outdoor burning, and be mindful of your outdoor activities...any fires that start may grow and spread quickly. A Fire Weather Warning or Red Flag Warning is in place for areas along and west of the 35 corridor, including the Austin metro, through the early evening.

Sustained winds out of the north will range from 10 to 20 and gusts up to 30+ mph today, bringing in much drier and slightly cooler air. Highs will still end up above average today in the upper 70s to low 80s. Another reinforcing shot of cool, dry air arrives tonight, setting up a cooler and still breezy Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday is the official first day of spring, and highs will be back to average in the upper 60s to low 70s. You might want to have a jacket over the next few mornings with lows in the 40s through Wednesday.

Winds shift from the north to the south by mid-week, resulting in a few more clouds into Thursday. As moisture increases and our next storm system approaches by the weekend, a few scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible. Right now we'll keep a 20% rain/storm chance in the forecast from Friday into Sunday. Rain may become more widespread by the start of next week...which is good news, because we really need the rainfall.

A gradual warming trend this week puts lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s as we head into the weekend. By Sunday we'll be close to 90 degrees.
