I hope you had a few minutes to enjoy the beautiful 70 degree day because big changes are on the way tonight.  Rain, sleet, snow... oh my!

Austin-Mabry recorded a high of 71 degrees and the Austin-Airport reached 70 degrees.  This was 10 degrees above our normal mid-January high.

An arctic front is forecast to move into Central Texas this evening with an immediate wind shift, spotty rain and dropping temperatures.  Several hours behind the front is what we are most concerned about.  Temperatures will steadily drop through the 40s by midnight and then into the 30s around 2 am.  This will change all liquid rain to more frozen precipitation by Tuesday morning.  Low temperatures are expected to drop all the way into the 20s by 7 am.  Rain odds are around 90% tonight.

WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect from midnight through 6 p.m. Tuesday to highlight the threat of ice and long snap of below-normal temperatures.  People, pets and pipes will all need appropriate protection and shelter from the elements.  Also want to metion, that any accumulation of ice or snow on the roads will cause for treacherous travel on Tuesday and as precaution, many businesses have closed and most school districts have closed.

Northerly winds are expected to howl across the region with sustained wind speeds around 20 to 30 mph and gusts near 40 to 45 mph.  Winds this high could cause some power outages and downed tree limbs if enough ice accumulates on those surfaces.

Temperatures are forecast to drop to 32 overnight and continue to plummet into 20s during the day.   It could feel like teens or even single digits in the area with the breezy winds.
