Yesterday's cold front brought chilly breezes back to Central Texas and a disturbance moving on top of it all is activating scattered showers. Looks like a good day for jackets and umbrellas -- it's a 50% rain chance overall. Cloudy skies won't allow for much sunshine today. In fact, temps likely won't move much during the day before falling to widespread 40s tonight.

Overall, this looks to be a fairly light rain event for our area:

Latest wind report:

Metro Austin hit a high of 79 yesterday. Now:

It appears we've already hit our high temp of 60 for the day. That's what the thermometer showed around midnight, and temps have steadily fallen since. Our in-house model shows temps holding fairly steady, near 50, for much of the day:

A disturbance will quickly move west to east over the Lone Star State today, adding extra uplift and instability to our atmosphere. A few resulting rumbles of thunder might develop this afternoon but shouldn't last long. That said, briefly heavy downpours can cause some real headaches when it comes to travel. For now, it appears the heaviest accumulations will be north of our area. Up in the Panhandle, it's snowing! A few inches could briefly stick to the ground around Amarillo. Here at home, Futurecast shows the last of the precip falling around 9 p.m. then the activity should move east, leaving us with a cloudy and cold night. After starting with low 40s in the morning, we're back to partly sunny skies and daytime 60s. High pressure is forecast to build over Mexico and influence our Texas weather for the rest of the week with a gradual rise in daytime temps back to 70s by the weekend. Temps might get a tad bit over the normal 74 by Sunday before another disturbance comes our way. As it looks now, some showers might return to the area Sunday and Monday. Keep warm!
