We've made it to Friday, and another big weekend for outdoor events! In Austin, the US Grand Prix takes the spotlight...and it's going to feel like summer through tomorrow then fall on Sunday, and you might need your umbrella at times. There's a 30% chance for showers & storms in today's forecast, with highs expected into the low 80s. The rain chance peaks very early Sunday morning.

Metro Austin hit a high of 84 yesterday at 2:17 p.m. Now:

We can feel a difference in the air out there: the humidity is back. It'll make low-mid 80s feel more like 85 to 90 today. Heat index this hour:

Today's forecast:

Coastal showers streamed north across Houston and right up I-45 during the night, but all that activity is to our east for now. A disturbance is crossing Texas today and that's why we have a slightly elevated rain chance, and also primarily cloudy skies. Futurecast shows some scattered showers trying to develop during the day with the possibility of a few afternoon thunderstorms, then the model shows it all wrapping up around sunset. Tomorrow, the odds are low at 20%. We're expecting clouds to clear up a bit more tomorrow, revealing more hot sunshine.  As a result, high temps will likely approach 90 degrees and feel like low 90s.  Then another fairly potent fall cold front is timed to arrive around or just before sunrise on Sunday, and it brings a hefty 60% rain/storm chance. Our in-house model shows a brief rain event. If everything stays on track, the downpours could be out of Austin prior to 10 a.m. Sunday which is great news for the big F1 race.

This morning's computer models suggest we could have some isolated one inch totals out of this event:

Cooler northerly breezes will follow the front, making Sunday afternoon feel much more Autumnal with mostly 70s. As the drier air pumps across Texas, we'll see temps drop to 40s and 50s to start out next Monday. Another reinforcing shot of colder air is expected to arrive Tuesday (though with no rain) and, as a result, we could end up with cooler-than-normal temps almost every day next week. Our normal high this time of year? 81. See the 7 Day Forecast for more.

Enjoy the weather!
