ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Muslim communities across the country are saying: get to know us.

Local Muslim leaders took part of a nationwide 'Meet a Muslim' campaign.

They opened the doors to their mosque ready to answer questions about their religion. Part of the event also featured a blood drive to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Organizers say events like this help shed some light on Muslim communities.

"We do this because there are 62 percent of Americans who have never met a Muslim. It is our effort to be out there in the community so someone who has never seen one and just know about Muslims and Islam through news media can come talk to us," said Round Rock resident Muhammad Ahmad.

Organizers say there were roughly 80 similar events nationwide.
