LAKE TRAVIS - Little by little a rebirth is taking place for one community.

"One of the things we are evaluating right now is how good this foundation is," said Shakeel Rashed.

Rashed is a board member for the Islamic Center of Lake Travis which was set to open in the spring.

But in the early morning hours of Jan. 7, a fire razed the structure. Investigators haven't publicly come forward with a conclusion on what started the fire, but community leaders are being realistic.

"We may or may not find the perpetrator of this crime," said Rashed.

But here the theme is looking ahead. Leaders of the center say they’re intent on a grand opening in time for next year’s holy month of Ramadan, for them that means thinking ahead in terms of security.

"So we are talking to three or four different security companies on how to put cameras in this place have lights that go on based on sensors and be able to record and save that information," said Rashed.

Leaders here say they didn’t think twice about rebuilding on the same spot.

"If we have to restart from scratch we have to go through city permits and everything else and that would put the project behind for a couple of years," said Rashed.

It’s also to say the spirit of this community won’t be brought down

"So that our community can meet at a safe place and pray meditate do good for charity," said Rashed.

It’s a community rising from the ashes.
